Taepyeongmu is a staged folk-based dance choreographed by Han Seong-jun, the master of Korean dance in the early twentieth century. Based on the unique rhythmic patterns of the shaman ritual of the Wangsimni area, Taepyeongmu is performed to pray for the peaceful reign of the king and for a good harvest.
The brilliant court costumes create a contrast to the shaman music. The zest of this dance is expressed by in the various foot movements that keep time with the diverse rhythmic patterns of ten-beats and thirty-six beats. Currently, Taepyeongmu has been designated as Korea`s Important Intangible Cultural Treasure No. 92.
